Dubai: Around 26,000 chickens have died at a poultry farm outside Dubai as a result of "heat stroke" due to power failure.
The national committee for bird flu in Dubai denied that the death of the birds was a result of bird flu, media reports said.
Cooling fans stopped functioning during the power failure resulting in the death of the birds, Hisham Ahmed Al Salem, a consultant to the committee, said adding "As per international standards both dead and live birds were subjected to testing as well as the area surrounding the farm. All tests found no signs of any disease." More than 73,000 birds were housed at the farm. Al Salem clarified that the committee had not only examined the birds but also conducted tests on a number of dead birds in co-operation with experts from the municipality's laboratories.
He reiterated that no signs of bird flu were found. The inspection team disposed of the dead birds hygienically and ensured that operations had returned to normal before leaving the farm.
