Laos announces containment of bird flu outbreaks

Laos on Thursday declared to have basically contained bird flu outbreaks, the country's news agency KPL reported.

Laos has basically contained the recent outbreaks in farms in Vientiane capital, the news agency quoted a spokesperson of the Lao Foreign Ministry as saying.

To prevent the widespread of the disease, Laos has culled some 19,000 poultry since it detected the outbreaks late last month. It has also destroyed 30 kg of imported limbs of chickens and ducks and over 6,000 eggs worth 5 million Lao kips (494 U.S. dollars).

The country has placed a temporary ban on sales of poultry meat at markets and restaurants, established quarantine checkpoints, monitored transports of fowls, and detoxificated farms.
