Vietnam excludes risk of transmission from another monkeypox case
    October 21, 2022 CDT04:35 (GMT) -0400

Hanoi, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) Health authorities in Ho Chi Minh City today denied the possibility that there is any danger of community transmission, after a second case of monkeypox was detected in that southern Vietnamese metropolis.

The patient carrying the disease was isolated upon arrival at the Tan Son Nhat airport and did not come into contact with anyone, therefore the risk of community contagion is zero, said the deputy director of the Center for Disease Control of that city, Nguyen Hong Tam.

The specialist, said the VNA news agency, also explained that there is not enough information to confirm that the two patients, both infected while visiting Dubai, were in contact, although it is known that they lived in the same accommodation.

The second Vietnamese citizen infected with monkeypox is a 38-year-old woman living in the northern province of Tuyen Quang, who presented symptoms such as fever, nausea and blisters since October 11 and arrived in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday. where she was immediately quarantined.

The first case of the disease reported in Vietnam was also a 35-year-old woman, who was discharged last October 14 from the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in the southern metropolis.

After three weeks of quarantine and medical treatment, the inmate tested negative and her contacts are safe, a hospital representative said at the time.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global health emergency over the monkeypox outbreak as infections surged globally, with more than 35,000 cases reported in 92 countries and territories.
