Odor Closes Ypsilanti School
Southfield (WWJ) -- What caused people at East Middle School in Ypsilanti to get sick? The fire department says at least five people were transported to a hospital on Thursday, while some others took themselves. Their symptoms included nausea and vomiting. A spokesperson for the school says some people there say they smelled some kind of an odor. They were treated and released.
E-P-A investigators were called in to monitor the situation after Ypsilanti Fire Department workers discovered 11 dead ducks on the roof of the school near ventilation units. The EPA is testing the ducks to see if they could be the cause of the odor.
Students and staff members were sent home early Thursday. The school will remain closed on Friday.
