NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) - The Queensborough Animal Shelter in New Westminster is closed because of an outbreak of a feline virus.
Blair Fryer with the City says the disease causes painful sores and respiratory problems. "In quarantine today, we have 17 cats. On the weekend, we euthanized six due to their suffering, and yesterday three more [were euthanized]."
He says the strain of Calicivirus at the shelter is particularly deadly. It only affects cats; humans and other pets will not get sick.
