Congo - Covid-19: Men are more affected than women
The latest report on the epidemiological situation of Covid-19 in the Congo shows an exponential progression of the pandemic. This report points out that the number of men reached is three times that of women.
With 2222 cases confirmed as of July 11, including 615 cured for 47 deaths, the Republic of Congo remains an epidemiological center, as the virus is still circulating there, especially in large urban centers. Specialists explain that the increase in cases is also justified by the sustained pace of tests.
If the fatality rate remains low, 2.1 percent, this feat is to be put to the credit of the nursing staff. This one spares no effort in the care of patients, in particular by proceeding with drug combinations which now integrate a well-honed care protocol and whose results are encouraging.
However, it should be noted that of the 47 deaths reported to date, 31 are between 49 and 70 years of age and 7 are over 70 years of age. Congo has had no covid-19 deaths in the 0-29 age group.
Among the figures made public by the Ministry of Health, we note the strong propensity of men to develop covid-19, that is 74.5%, against 25.5% of women.
Even if this table is not accompanied by any explanatory literature, the fact remains that the relaxation in the barrier measures seems more pronounced in men than in women. Moreover, it is an established societal fact, that men are more inclined to defy the laws, than women, even if men are more active than women, in social contact and therefore more exposed.
As the dry season sets in, with low temperatures conducive to the spread of the flu in normal times, it is feared that climatic conditions may favor the explosion of the covid-19 pandemic. So protecting yourself is also protecting others, for the benefit of all.
