These are 1,095 cases confirmed this Tuesday, May 12 and 12 deaths since the start of the epidemic. 7 patients are in intensive care. The objective for the health authorities is to avoid saturation of the Mayotte hospital center. Hence the multiplication of medical evacuations to Reunion.

This intra-regional solidarity, widely used in metropolitan France at the height of the epidemic, makes it possible to make the teams breathe and free beds, so that all patients whose state of health requires it can be welcomed at the CHM - at emergencies, medicine, resuscitation, pediatrics - in good conditions of safety and quality of care.

Who decides on these medical evacuations?

The transfer procedure must be validated by the evasants cells of the departure and arrival hospitals, by the hospital service of course, as well as by the ARS of Mayotte and Reunion. 25 to 30 people, including about 1⁄4 in a stretcher, can be transferred per week.
Who will be evacuated?
Patients whose vital or functional prognosis is engaged are naturally priority areas, whatever their virological status. Evasans of Covid + patients for hospitalization, respiratory rehabilitation or follow-up care, in the absence of a specialized facility in Mayotte, are also scheduled.
What means of transport are used to provide escapees?

Prescriptions for the tests are carried out by doctors practicing both in private practice, at the level of emergencies or within referral medical centers. Thus, the strategy defined for the tests does not only concern the clusters identified on our island.
