“The spread of this epidemic appears to be accelerated in the Nyangezi health zone. The city of Kamanyola remains the epicenter of this smallpox. This entity itself has 150 cases, 100 of which are already confirmed and others are under surveillance. Those in serious situations are in quarantine at the Saint Joseph hospital in Kamanyola ,” said the chief medical officer of the Nyangezi zone, Dr. Olivier Kabarati.
And added: “The city of Kamanyola is at the crossroads of several borders that sometimes export or import epidemics abound in the area. To save themselves from these evils, the population must self-educate and tirelessly maintain hygienic rules. Border hygiene services should be active in the detection, isolation and referral of suspected cases to avoid mass contamination ,” he recommended.
During an interview, Dr.Olivier; affirmed that the treatment of monkeypox patients, otherwise known as sign smallpox, is free. In case of primary signs of this smallpox, the patient can go to the hospital early. However, the only challenges to face so far since the management of this epidemic are the lack of sufficient equipment in terms of beds for patients and other medical equipment. Also, the framework within which patients are quarantined should be expanded. ACP/CL
