New Zealand closes it's borders - Confusion over visas

From 11.59pm tonight [applied according to boarding time], we will close our border to any non-residents and [non]citizens attempting to travel here.

This will stop tourists or temporary visa holders including students or temporary workers from coming to or entering New Zealand.

New Zealand citizens and permanent residents will be able to return, and of course that includes the children and partners of citizens and permanent residents.

Temporary visa holders confused about what to do with expiries imminent.

In the next six months, almost 200,000 people are due to have their student, visitor or work visas expire.

Concerned readers have contacted Stuff unsure if they should try to extend their visas or try to get back to their home country.
