Fifteen patients deceased, 346 new patients, in total 2051 positive tested persons

Since yesterday, 346 people have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. This brings the total number of positive tested people tested to 2051. Among them are 485 people working in health care; they are tested more often than other groups.

Fifteen patients have died from COVID-19 since the last update. A total of 58 people have now died from COVID-19 in the Netherlands. The age of the deceased persons is between 63 and 95 years. A total of 408 patients are or have been admitted to a hospital.

Most of the positive tested people live in the province of Noord-Brabant, namely 759 people. Noord-Brabant is followed by Limburg (265) and Zuid-Holland (241).

    New map

Since yesterday, the distribution of the number of positive tested people in the Netherlands is shown with an incidence map. The coloured areas do not represent the total number of positively tested people, but the number per 100,000 inhabitants, since the first patient in the Netherlands. The colour distribution of the map is different today than yesterday. This is because the legend has been changed.

171 corona patients in intensive care, capacity can be expanded to 2,000

At the moment, 171 people with the coronavirus are in intensive care units in the Netherlands. This is reported by the Dutch Association for Intensive Care (NVIC). Two days ago, it was still 96 people. Yesterday it was 135.

In total, there are 575 beds available for corona patients. This number can, if necessary, be expanded to 1500 and in a 'crisis phase' even to 2000.

The Netherlands closes borders for people from outside Europe

From 6 p.m. tomorrow, the borders of the Netherlands will be closed to people who do not necessarily have to go here. The entry ban does not apply to travelers from EU Member States, Schengen countries or the United Kingdom. People with a vital function, such as healthcare or transport staff, are also excluded from the new rules. The entry ban is valid for 30 days.

The actual number of infections with COVID-19 is higher than the number of reports in this update, because not everyone with potential infection is tested anymore.

Coronavirus test capacity at risk due to lack of laboratory equipment

All kinds of materials that are essential to determine whether someone is infected with the coronavirus are scarce. Shortages threaten to jeopardize the progress of diagnostics. In the Netherlands, relatively few people are already being tested for the virus.

"Scarcity expects molecular diagnostics soon, solutions are being sought," a report of a meeting on Covid-19 disease last Wednesday said. Several things are required to test someone for the corona virus. First, cotton swabs, which can be used to take throat and nose samples from people who may be infected. Those bars are scarce.

The molecule rna is isolated from the samples of these patients in a device. This requires plastic plates, the so-called platforms, and there is also a shortage of them. These plates have filter tips, pipette tips with a small filter. Same story: stocks have shrunk considerably and shortages are imminent. Then liquids are still needed for the process and there is also a shortage of them.

                Shortages all the time

Ann Vossen is chairman of the Dutch Association for Medical Microbiology and a virologist at the LUMC in Leiden. She was present at the above meeting. "The shortages are really big," says Vossen, "every lab is now trying to find stuff. But if you solve one shortage, for example of plastic plates, then the next is yet another shortage. The real problem is that producers around the world are unable to meet demand. "

                "Health Care Stops"

In addition to diagnostics, there are significant shortages of protective equipment for healthcare providers. These currently make up about a quarter of all confirmed corona infections.

The Elkerliek Hospital in Helmond warns that care will be stopped if the employees can no longer be protected. "We want to emphasize that our care will stop if the right protective equipment is no longer available. Working without it cannot and should not happen. The safety of our patients and employees is paramount."

The actual tests are usually purchased in Europe or the US. "In America we can no longer buy anything," says Vossen, "that is a problem. And there is a large producer in Italy, Copan, who still produce, but everyone wants to buy. Everyone is looking everywhere for ways to stock up to fill."

Vossen says that a number of Dutch laboratories have started to make the test liquids again. "just like we used to. There are now Dutch companies working on making cotton swabs. If there are, we get a little air. The actual tests are the most pressing problem. Not all tests that are offered are suitable for us . "

The head of microbiology at the Amphia Hospital in Breda says that there is a shortage of everything, but that there are still things for a week.

Ziekenhuizen in het hele land hebben te weinig spullen om mensen te kunnen testen op het coronavirus.

Thirty more people diagnosed with the coronavirus died in the Netherlands since Friday, raising the death toll to 136. The country's health agency said another 637 people tested positive for the virus, which raises the country's total to 3,631 since testing began in late February.

Patients requiring hospitalization also rose by 193 patients, health agency RIVM said. To date, 836 coronavirus patients were admitted to the hospital since testing started.

The dead are included in the ever-increasing number of total patients, and their ages ranged from 63 to at least 95. "Most deceased people are between 80 and 84 years old," the RIVM noted...

43 patients died, 573 new patients, a total of 4204 positive tested subjects

As of yesterday, 573 people have been tested positive for the new coronavirus (COVID-19). This brings the total number of people tested positive to 4204. Among them are 988 people who have been or have been hospitalized.

43 patients have died from COVID-19 since the previous update. A total of 179 people died from the disease. The dead are between 57 and 97 years old.

Most people tested positive live in the province of Noord Brabant, namely 1404 people. After that, most people tested positive were reported in South Holland (585) and North Holland (535).

The actual number of infections with the new coronavirus is higher than the number mentioned here. This is because not everyone is tested with possible infection, but especially patients who are so ill that they are hospitalized and caregivers.

405 corona patients in intensive care

There are currently 405 corona patients in intensive care. This is reported by the Dutch Association for Intensive Care. A week ago there were still 96 people, yesterday there were 354.

There are around 600 places available for corona patients at IC throughout the Netherlands. Due to the expected increase, work is now underway to expand this to 1000. In recent days, patients from North Brabant have also been moved to the rest of the Netherlands, in order to create space for new patients at the ICU.

Since the last update, 34 patients have died from COVID-19. The number of COVID-19 fatalities in the Netherlands is now 213. The age of the deceased is between 55 and 97 years; the average age at the time of death is 82 years.

Most of the positive tested people live in the province of Noord- Brabant, namely 1558 people. Followed by Zuid- Holland (647) and Noord-Holland (600).

63 patients died, 811 new patients, a total of 5560 people tested positive

As of yesterday, 811 people have tested positive for the new coronavirus (COVID-19). This brings the total number of people tested positive to 5560. Among them are 1495 people who are or have been hospitalized.

63 patients have been reported dead from COVID-19 since the previous update. A total of 276 people have been reported dead from the disease. The dead are between 55 and 97 years old.

Most people tested positive live in the province of Noord Brabant, namely 1739 people. After that, most people tested positive were reported in South Holland (758) and North Holland (740).

The number of reported patients and deceased patients may differ per day for various reasons. For example, we see that deceased patients are not always reported on the same day. The fact that the numbers fluctuate per day does not say anything about the effect of the measures that have been introduced since mid-March. This effect is not expected to be seen until the end of this week or early next week.
