      Total number of patients: 23

The number of patients was adjusted downwards on March 3. One previously positive test (based on a doubtful test result) is still considered negative after two repeated negative test results. It is the youngest child of the patient in Diemen.

According to the Health Service Haaglanden, it is so busy at the laboratories that perform the corona tests that it can take up to 48 hours for someone to get the result. There is actually a maximum of one day for this.

44 new patients, a total of 82 positive tests

Since the last update, 44 new patients have been reported to the RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. This brings the total number of positive patients tested to 82. Of these, 69 patients were infected abroad or contacts from confirmed patients. Of the new patients, two are admitted to the hospital. The other new patients are in home insulation.

One new patient was found via a monitoring station of the Nivel Dutch Institute for Healthcare Research. Nivel, together with the Erasmus MC Erasmus Medical Center and RIVM, is conducting research into flu-like symptoms. Together they test at 40 GP practices how often these symptoms occur and which viruses cause these symptoms. Since a few weeks, this research is also being tested for the new corona virus. The source of the infection is still unknown for a few patients. The GGD Municipal Health Service is still investigating the possible source. Contact investigation has been started for all new patients.

Patient with new coronavirus passed away

                Publication date 06-03-2020 | 10:56

An 86-year-old man who was admitted to the Ikazia Hospital in Rotterdam with COVID-19 died today. The source of infection of this patient is so far unknown. This is the first patient in the Netherlands who died from the consequences of an infection with the new corona virus.

After it became known that the patient had COVID-19, he was cared for in isolation. The hospital and the Municipal HealthService (GGD ) have mapped out the contacts of the patient (visitors and caregivers) and check whether they have complaints. All contacts of patients who have a cold or a fever have been asked to stay at home. They are tested if necessary.

The new coronavirus can spread through drops. For example if someone coughs or sneezes in the face of another. Symptoms of the disease are fever and respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath or cough. A person with fever and respiratory complaints and who has been in an area where COVID-19 is widespread in the last 14 days can be tested for COVID-19. This currently applies to the following countries: China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Singapore, South Korea, Iran and some provinces in Northern Italy (Aosta Valley, Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino-South Tyrol, Friuli-Julisch- Venice, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Liguria).

Dutch Health Institute RIVM wants people from Brabant Province to stay home if feeling ill

The RIVM advises everyone in Noord-Brabant with mild health problems to stay at home until they have recovered. This in realtion with the corona outbreak in the Netherlands. The reason for the call is that in many cases of infection in Brabant the source is still unclear.

The RIVM defines mild health problems as coughing and runny nose, with or without a fever.

The call of the RIVM is that people with mild complaints are asked to avoid the nightlife, not to go to work and not to visit anyone in the hospital or nursing home. People can go to the supermarket to buy basic necessities. All this applies to the period that someone feels sick.
De oproep van het RIVM komt erop neer dat mensen?gevraagd wordt hun contacten tot een minimum te beperken.

Coronavirus patient total rises to 188; Concern for "irresponsible" students back from Italy
                        By Zack Newmark on March 7, 2020 - 14:42

Sixty more people in the Netherlands tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total to 188. Forty percent of the new patients, 24, reside in the Noord-Brabant province.

The numbers, provided by health agency RIVM, were expected to show a higher number of cases in Noord-Brabant, where the prevailing health advice is for anyone who lives in the province and has even a mild fever or minor cough to stay home. The reason being that investigators traced the source of infection for several patients to the province, and for many others it was difficult to determine how they became infected.

The Netherlands' first death of a patient with the coronavirus infection happened on Friday, when an 86-year-old man from Hoekse Waard succumbed to the disease. He was admitted to the Ikazia Hospital in Rotterdam with urinary tract problems on Sunday and was tested for the coronavirus after he started showing respiratory problems, the hospital said on Tuesday, confirming his diagnosis....
