"Quarantine officers are not subject to inspection"

February 24, 2020 22:55New coronavirusOne quarantine officer who was on duty on the cruise ship Diamond Princess was confirmed to be newly infected, but the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has not changed its current policy of excluding quarantine officers from virus testing. Inspections will be conducted when symptoms occur.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, who had been on duty at the Diamond Princess, had almost returned to work without being screened for viruses, raising concerns about the staff.

For this reason, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has decided on the 22nd that a virus test will be conducted on 41 persons who have performed clerical work on board and clerks who will be performing future work, regardless of symptoms.

About transportation of asymptomatic pathogen holder confirmed in cruise ship during quarantine at Yokohama Port

          febr 25, 2020

The cruise ship Diamond Princess, which arrived at Yokohama Port on February 3, is undergoing quarantine at sea, but was confirmed during a new coronavirus inspection conducted from February 20 to 23. The 20 asymptomatic pathogen carriers will be transported to the center of Fujita Medical University, which is scheduled to open on April 1 (Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture), which has received a request from the government today.

Those who are transported include foreign nationals, and it is necessary to take measures that take into account the physical condition and other factors. The press is requested to give special consideration to coverage of this matter.

Quarantine of the cruise ship continues to be implemented. A new coronavirus test is conducted for those who need it, and the results will be announced later.

Coronavirus infections keep mounting after cruise ship fiasco in Japan
                By Dennis NormileFeb. 25, 2020 , 11:45 AM

TOKYO—All but a handful of the passengers of the disease-stricken Diamond Princess cruise ship berthed in Yokohama have disembarked. But for Japan, the saga is far from over. Much of the crew remains on board, enduring another 14 days of quarantine—although this time under conditions that Japanese officials hope will prevent any additional infections.

But there has been another worrisome development: As of today, eight public servants who worked on the ship to support the quarantine have tested positive for COVID-19, and more may follow. Most of the roughly 90 health ministry employees who visited the ship during the first 2-week quarantine that ended on 19 February initially returned to their normal work duties, but in light of the infections, the health ministry yesterday revised its policy and now those potentially exposed to the virus on the Diamond Princess are self-quarantining at home for 14 days, according to a ministry official who asked not to be identified.

TOKYO: Dozens of passengers allowed off a coronavirus-stricken ship have developed symptoms including fever and will be asked to take tests for the virus, Japan’s health minister said Wednesday.

The news came as another death linked to the virus in Japan was reported and the government urged organisers of major events in the next fortnight to consider cancelling or downsizing them to help curb the spread of infections.

The government has contacted 813 former passengers of the Diamond Princess cruise ship and found “45 people had certain symptoms”, Health Minister Katsunobu Kato told parliament.

“We asked all of them (who have symptoms) to see a doctor and to take tests.”...

Some very interesting baseline data on the Diamond Princess cases here

Many thanks to Chris for sending this link in. As I understand it 5 cases in total have died thus far? Hopefully there will be case severity and similar data that will be published soon to compare this against. What is particularly interesting is the age distribution of passengers and those infected, as well as onset dates. Not as skewed towards those aged over 65 as I had expected.
