In future, the BMSGPK will announce the number of examinations carried out so far:

If a suspected case is reported by a health authority, it is immediately tested for the presence of a coronavirus infection. During the day, new suspected cases and test results can cause the number of suspected cases to fluctuate several times.

For this reason and to avoid misunderstandings, the number of tests carried out to date and the number of laboratory-confirmed infections by SARS-CoV-2 will be communicated on the website as soon as the BMSGPK has confirmed results.

Previous tests in Austria ( daily update of the current status at 8 a.m. ): 4734

        Confirmed cases, as of March 9, 2020, 8:00 a.m . : 112 cases

EXCLUSIVE The four men are part of a group of ten staying in a busy ski resort in Saalbach. The six others were quarantined at the Austrian resort before being given 15 minutes to get out.

Three British skiers have been hospitalized with coronavirus in Austria after contracting a more aggressive strain of the killer bug, reports suggest.

Three man - aged 61, 44 and 49 - had been staying in Italy before going to a busy ski resort in Saalbach in the middle of the winter season.

          ...
The coronavirus death toll in Italy increased by 133 to 366 yesterday while the number of cases skyrocketed from 1,492 to 7,375.

The bug has killed 3,500 worldwide and has infected more than 100,000.

Dr Richard Greil, who is in charge of the quarantine of the three skiers, said that all the cases seen in the region were coming from Italy, which he described as being 'completely out of control.'

It is widely speculated that Italy has a stronger variant of the virus - known as the 'L' variant - but there is no concrete evidence for this.

The move is an attempt to stop the disease being brought across the border between the two nations.

Austria has announced a ban on Italians entering the country unless they carry a medical certificate, in an attempt to stop coronavirus spreading.

Speaking after the Italian government imposed travel restrictions across the country, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said Austrians returning from Italy would have to self-isolate for two weeks.

Austria has seen 158 cases of coronavirus so far.

VIENNA: A 69-year-old man who had visited Italy and had a pre-existing illness has become the first person in Austria to die of the coronavirus, the city of Vienna said on Thursday (Mar 12).

His death comes a day after sweeping restrictions were imposed across the country to slow the disease's spread from neighbouring Italy, the hardest-hit country in Europe. Border controls are in place and indoor gatherings of more than 100 people banned with only few exceptions. Advertisement
"Hospital visits are banned until further notice," the city said in a statement announcing the man's death overnight.

Austria has confirmed 302 cases so far, in contrast to Italy, which has recorded more than 12,000 infections and 827 deaths.
