Haiti - Daily MOH cholera reports - Official total 8,531 fatalities; 610 in 2013

The UN spokesperson said last week he thought there were at least 2,000 deaths at that point in time and that it was hard to quantify with certainty the number of deaths in the countryside:

"Mr. Nigel Fisher, the coordinator of UN humanitarian action in Haiti, citing figures in circulation, said the reality was rather be close to 2000 dead and 60 to 70 000 cases, due to difficulties faced in obtaining accurate statistics on the impact of the epidemic in remote and isolated areas of the country. He stressed how important it is to conduct an accelerated implementation of programs of access to water and sanitation. "Beyond financial resources, we need more doctors and more nurses," he said, recalling that the epidemic continues to spread over the months or even years to come ."
Most newssources and PAHO use these numbers, even if they probably are a vague reflection of reality. This thread can bring this shaky source of news to the attention of those who are interested. At best we may discover some trends?
I suppose you may multiply the daily numbers with 2, or 3, or 4.
For me this thread is not about numbers, it is a small reminder of what is happening now in Ha?ti. The real misery can't be grasped in numbers.

We will post as of today, the assessment of the situation on the cholera epidemic in Haiti, every 5 days, in a new formule to facilitate reading and to monitor progress more easily . Note that all these assessment come from the official reports of the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP).
The major humanitarian organizations (MSF, MDM, ICRC etc...) and the world health organization (WHO, PAHO, OCHA, etc...) recognize that the assessments are largely undervalued and not reflect reality. However, it seems difficult, according to many experts, to have an accurate reading of the situation, given the difficulties of access to many areas in Haiti and the lack of human resources.

Haiti - Cholera Epidemic : 93,222 cases and 2,120 deaths, the epidemic is gaining ground

Since the beginning of the epidemic (November 19, 2010), 93.222 people were infected with cholera and treated, 44.157 were hospitalized and 2.120 people died of the disease (Latest figures of 4 December published by the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) on December 6).
Nothing seems to stop the spread of the epidemic of cholera (excluding figures largely undervalued by the MSPP, some voluntarily (Port-au-Prince and metropolitan area). The epidemic spread throughout the territory. The South is seriously affected and the partial assessment, of the department of Grand Anse looks very heavy, with a mortality rate of 58.1%.

Total deaths : 38 fatalities reported on the day, but the total # reduced by 54 to 2481. The reduction occurs as follows # of fatalities under 5 down from 190 to 169, 5+ down from 2345 to 2312.
