61 Typhoid Cases Confirmed In Harare


City of Harare has closed some boreholes that were found with contaminated water, following a typhoid outbreak, 263Chat has learnt.

According to Harare City Health director, Dr. Prosper Chonzi, the capital has recorded 61 confirmed cases mainly in Budiriro, Glen View, and Glen Norah surbubs.

The Harare capital city of Zimbabwe is experiencing a typhoid fever outbreak since October 2022. As of 27 January 2022, a total of 186 cases with 17 confirmed have been reported. The age group of 1 – 4 years accounts for 16% of the total cases. Males account for 47% of all typhoid cases and females contribute 45% and 8% of the cases have no stated gender. All the tested samples were sensitive to Ciprofloxacin, Azithromycin, cefotaxime, and ceftriaxone and resistant to Ampicillin, cotrimoxazole and azithromycin
