Cholera breaks out in Mpulungu, claims one

CHOLERA has broken out in Mpulungu in Northern Province.
Northern Province permanent secretary Emmanuel Mwamba said in a statement issued in Kitwe yesterday that Mpulungu District Hospital recorded the first case of cholera on August 12.
He said the hospital has treated 52 suspected cases of cholera and recorded one death.
Mr Mwamba said there are seven patients currently admitted to Mpulungu hospital.

Mpulungu cholera cases soar to 74

THE number of cholera cases in Mpulungu has risen to 74 from 68 but no more deaths have been recorded.
One person has died from the deadly water-borne disease.
And the Ministry of Health has managed to deliver medical supplies to Mpulungu, while all cholera patients have been isolated to prevent the spread of the disease.

Cholera tops 90 cases

THE number of cholera cases in Mpulungu has soared to 90, with the latest four cases recorded on Saturday evening.
Northern Province permanent secretary Emmanuel Mwamba confirmed the development in an interview yesterday, saying the four are currently being treated and observed.
Mr Mwamba said the cholera outbreak was in the process of being contained in the past three days after 86 people were treated for the waterborne disease and discharged.
He said the situation is under control as government has devised measures to effectively tackle the disease.

34 schools in Mpulungu remain closed ? PS

NORTHERN Province permanent secretary Emmanuel Mwamba says 34 of the 79 schools in Mpulungu have remained closed since the third term started on September 3, due to the cholera outbreak in which 118 cases have been recorded so far.
Mr Mwamba said in an interview yesterday that Government through the Ministry of Health, is still observing the situation in the affected areas...

12 fishermen die of cholera in central Zambia

LUSAKA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) ? At least 12 fishermen at a fishing camp in Zambia?s central Kapiri Mposhi district died from a suspected cholera outbreak and some others were admitted at a local health center, the state-run news agency reported on Wednesday.
The water-borne disease has affected Lukanga Swamps, killing 12 fishermen between Monday and Wednesday, a traditional leader told the Zambia News and Information Service (ZANIS).
