Mpulungu records new cholera cases

FOUR new cases of cholera have been reported in Mpulungu.
Ministry of Health spokesperson Dr Kamoto Mbewe said as of Thursday January 13, four provinces had reported cases of the disease.
Dr Mbewe named the provinces as Lusaka, Southern, Northern and Copperbelt.

Zambia: Cholera breaks out in Sinazongwe

Cholera has broken out in Sinazongwe district in Southern Province and one woman is reported to have died while 31 people have been admitted to Sinamalima clinic.

Both Sinazongwe acting Commissioner (DC) Sokoloku Daka and Malima ward Councillor confirmed the development to ZANIS.

Mr. Daka said the woman died last night and among the samples that were taken to the laboratory four were confirmed to have cholera.
He said Sinazongwe District Medical Officer Dr Elias Chipandwe and his team have since rushed to the area to contain the outbreak.

The Acting District Commissioner said an emergency meeting would be convened to address the situation before cases spread to Sinazeze area.
Mr. Daka however, said it was a challenge to access areas where cholera had broken out because of Sikalamba stream and Nangombe which had no bridges.
Malima ward Councillor Fisher Zimana disclosed that cases were coming from Bbune village, Sinalulungwe, and Manyonga village in Malima area.

Mr. Zimana said the dead woman hailed from Manyonga village in Malima area.
He said some people were carrying their cholera patients on their backs owing to the impassable roads, a situation he feared would increase the number of cases.

Zambia: One dies of cholera at Chipata compound clinic
Dr. Mbewe has disclosed that one person has died of Cholera in Lusaka?s Chipata Compound while 14 cholera cases are under treatment.

He says the affected areas include Lusaka?s Matero Compound, Sinamalima area in Sinazongwe district in Southern Province and Nsumba village in Northern Province.

North PS mwamba tackles Cholera outbreak

Permanent Secretary for Northern Province, Emmanuel Mwamba has dispatched a medical team from Kasama to help combat a fresh outbreak of cholera in Mpulungu District.

Yesterday, Mpulungu Health Centre reported five cases of Cholera referred to it from Muzabwela andMusendeVillages.

Briefing the press on Saturday in his office in Kasama, Mr. Mwamba stated that the medical officials had successfully combated the earlier outbreak of twenty cases that were reported in October 2011...

Cholera outbreak not clear

Ministry of Health Spokesperson Dr. Kamoto Mbewe says his Ministry is still waiting for a detailed report on the reported outbreak of Cholera in Mufurila District on the Copperbelt.

Dr. Mbewe says officials are on the ground to investigate the outbreak in the area and that members of the public will be availed with detailed information once a full report is submitted to the Ministry...
