Widespread outages have been reported by thousands of users across several countries, including the US, UK and India.
The number of outage reports rose to around 35,000, user-submitted data on the outage-tracking website Downdetector showed.
Much of the initial complaints focused on issues with connecting to X through a desktop, although problems with the mobile application also increased over time.
The cause of the outage was not immediately clear, and X did not respond to a request for comment.
