Thus, the swine influenza virus may have claimed their first Norwegian victim. The Public Health department received notification of the death Sunday morning.
- We can confirm we have received a notification that a woman in the 40-year from Akershus is dead. There is a possible correlation with the flu, but it is not confirmed. Swine Influenza can be one of several reasons why she died," said Dr. Bjorn Iversen in the NIPH to VG Nett.
After what VG Nett know the woman have been ill with flu-like symptoms and she has been given Tamiflu, but this can not be confirmed or denyed, says Iversen.
- When can you possibly give us an answer on that?
- If it is sampled in the past, it will be clear pretty quickly. If not, we must pass tests. Then it will take a few days, "says Iversen.
- Had the woman other health problems?
- She had other underlying diseases, but I can not say anything about the diseases in question.
Were not hospitalized
According to Iversen the woman was not admitted to hospital when she died.
VG Nett has been in contact with the Health Directorate as saying that they can not comment on the case until they get the test results. Chief doctor in the County of Akershus and Oslo, Petter Schou, says he has not received notification of the death.
Thursday was the first death from H1N1 virus confirmed in this country. The victim was a Danish truck driver that worked in Norway.
