Wisconsin Department of Health: Three people have died from the flu in the past 10 days

MILWAUKEE — According to the Wisconsin Department of Health, since October 12, there have been 22 flu hospitalizations and 3 deaths, which is higher than average for this time of year.

How Quickly Can A Tick Make You Sick?
According to the Milwaukee Health Department, the flu is among the most common contagious respiratory illness in the United States. Though common, it can be serious, leading to hospitalization and sometimes death. During the 2018-2019 flu season (September 1, 2018 - April 30, 2019), there were 559 influenza associated hospitalizations in the City of Milwaukee, and two (2) pediatric flu deaths in Wisconsin.

City leaders spent their time getting a flu shot Tuesday afternoon, at the Health Department's Flu Season Awareness Kick-Off event.

Woman loses father to flu-related death, encourages others to get flu shot

DODGE COUNTY, WI (WDJT) -- A Dodge County woman is sharing her story of loss, and learning. Autumn Berg's father, Patrick, died last week after battling lung cancer and the flu.

“The flu is something that comes and goes every year, and I have seen throughout my short life on earth just how grave it can be,” Berg said.

She says it was his second cancer diagnosis, and believes he may have had a better chance at surviving had he gotten a flu shot.

City of Milwaukee Health Department reports 1st pediatric flu death of 2019-2020 season

MILWAUKEE — The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) says a child has died from complications related to the flu. The child, who lives in the City of Milwaukee, is the first pediatric flu death reported to the MHD for the 2019-2020 flu season.

The CDC says there have been more than 90 pediatric flu deaths nationwide for the current season.

"We are incredibly saddened to learn that a child has died of complications related to influenza, our thoughts are with the child's family during this difficult time," said Commissioner of Health Dr. Jeanette Kowalik.
