DHS Confirms Case of Measles in Waukesha County
Health officials investigating, no known public exposures identified

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and Waukesha County Health and Human Services have confirmed one case of measles in a resident of Waukesha County, representing the first confirmed case of measles in Wisconsin this year. The case was confirmed through testing at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene.

The case is related to international travel. Due to privacy concerns, no additional personal identifying or health information will be released by DHS. DHS and Waukesha County Health and Human Services are working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed to the measles virus. At this time, no public exposure locations have been identified.​..

Public Health Madison & Dane County continues to investigate the confirmed case of measles in Dane County. So far, the investigation has identified the following locations where people may have been exposed to measles:

Qdoba Restaurant, 2 N. Park Street, Madison

Sunday, Jan. 25 from 1-5 p.m.

UW-Madison Brogden Psychology Building, 1202 W. Johnson Street, Madison

Monday, Jan. 26 from noon to 6 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Waisman Center, 1500 Highland Avenue, Madison

Monday, Jan. 26 from 4-7 p.m

Wednesday,Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

UW-Madison Genetics Building: Biotechnology Center Building, 425 Henry Mall, Madison

Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

UW-Madison Union South, 1308 W. Dayton Street, Madison

Monday, Jan. 26, from 7-9:15 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 2-5 p.m.

For these locations, there is not a list of specific people exposed, so direct outreach is not possible. Anyone at these locations during the dates and times should monitor themselves for symptoms of measles and check their vaccination status as soon as possible. Wisconsin residents can find their immunization records using the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) or call your health care provider. Measles confirmed in UW-Madison student
Health officials warn of 5 locations on, near campus where the public was exposed early last week

​State and local health officials have confirmed a case of measles in a University of Wisconsin-Madison student and identified several campus locations where the public may have been exposed.

The student contracted the highly contagious measles virus during international travel, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

The case is not related to the measles infection confirmed in a Waukesha County resident last week. That case was also from international travel.​..

Six more people potentially exposed to measles in Milwaukee

​MILWAUKEE — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has identified six Milwaukee residents potentially exposed to measles on the flight from Phoenix on January 29.

The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has reached out to all of those residents, and is also working with airport officials to connect with potentially impacted airport staff.

The initial confirmed exposure happened after an infected person traveled on Southwest Airlines Flight WN 266 from Phoenix to Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, which arrived on January 29 at 10:31 p.m., and impacts individuals on the flight as well as anyone in the airport until 12:31 a.m. on Janaury 30.​..​​

New measles case identified in out-of-state traveler who visited Madison
It's the second time a traveler from out of state led to public exposure in Wisconsin this year

​Another public exposure to the highly-contagious measles virus has been reported in Madison.

A traveler from out of state stopped in Madison on Feb. 6 and later tested positive for measles, according to officials at Public Health Madison & Dane County.

The person stayed the night at the Holiday Inn Express on Madison’s northeast side. Health officials said in a press release Saturday that they are reaching out to known contacts of the affected person, but they don’t have a full list of possible exposures.​..

MADISON, Wis. —

Wisconsin health officials are reporting a sharp increase in measles cases in Iowa and Lafayette counties, with 15 confirmed infections and six probable cases identified as of Thursday morning.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services, or DHS, had announced two cases in the counties on Aug. 11 — one involving an Iowa County resident and the other involving a Lafayette County resident. Testing was conducted by the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene.

Those infections were initially identified as Wisconsin’s third and fourth confirmed measles cases of 2026. Officials said they were not connected to two cases confirmed in Madison in February.

The Iowa and Lafayette county residents were believed to have been exposed to measles in Wisconsin, raising concerns that additional infections could be circulating undetected. Some people who become ill do not seek medical care or undergo testing, meaning public health agencies may not learn of every case.

State and local health officials are working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed. DHS has not identified any public exposure locations connected to the cases...

DARLINGTON — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has officially declared a measles outbreak in Lafayette and Iowa counties, just as schools are ready to open for the fall. On Tuesday, August 11, two cases of measles were found in the counties. By Thursday morning, that number had risen to 15, with another six probable.

“The rapid emergence of these cases, particularly among people who have not traveled outside of Wisconsin, indicates that there is active local transmission,” said Ryan Westergaard, chief medical officer and state epidemiologist for communicable diseases for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, in a call with reporters. “It is very likely that additional cases exist in the community that have not yet been identified or reported to public health. We are hoping that this is a small outbreak, and that we contain it quickly. Right now, it’s a dynamic situation.”

The original positive tests were confirmed through testing at the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene; one is a resident of Iowa County and one is a resident of Lafayette County. These were the third and fourth cases of measles confirmed in Wisconsin so far in 2026 and are not related to any of the previously confirmed cases. With Wednesday’s additions, that number has risen to 23 on the year in the state. Of those 23 people, 22 were not vaccinated with the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine. Three of the 23 cases are children under the age of five, and 14 are under the age of 18. In 2025, there were 36 cases of measles, with 22 under the age of 18, including four under age four, and two hospitalizations. None of the 36 were vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella.​..

Measles outbreak spreads to Grant County, 36 confirmed cases across southwestern Wisconsin

GRANT COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) — A measles outbreak that began earlier this year has now spread to Grant County, with health officials confirming the new are connected to the cases in Lafayette and Iowa counties.

Grant County now has two cases connected to the outbreaks in Lafayette and Iowa counties.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reports 36 confirmed cases and three probable cases in the ongoing outbreak. Iowa County has the highest number with 31 cases, followed by Lafayette County with six cases.

Two additional cases were reported earlier this year in Dane and Waukesha counties.

More than half of the cases this year were children between the ages of 5 and 17.

Forty of the 41 cases were unvaccinated, and two people have been hospitalized...

MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) - Two more cases of measles were confirmed in Wisconsin on Tuesday, both in Grant County. The cases are related to cases in Iowa and Lafayette counties, all in the southwest corner of the state.

The state has recorded 41 cases of measles this year. Forty of those cases are in people who are unvaccinated.

That is five more cases than the total recorded in 2025, when all 36 cases were unvaccinated...
