Wood County, Wisconsin, has reported its first human case of West Nile virus for the year.
The virus is spread by infected mosquitoes, and most people who are infected do not become ill.
Officials advise using insect repellent and removing standing water to prevent mosquito bites and breeding.
Symptoms can range from mild fever and headache to severe illness, which is more common in older adults.​..

WI (WEAU) - Health officials Thursday are reporting human cases of West Nile Virus in St. Croix County and La Crosse County.

Thursday, St. Croix County Public Health reported this year’s first human infections of West Nile virus in three residents of St. Croix County.

The same day, La Crosse County Health Department reported the first person confirmed to have West Nile virus illness in a resident of La Crosse County.​..

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Eau Claire County is reporting its first human case of West Nile Virus this year. Last year, there was a single human West Nile case reported in Eau Claire County. Before that, the last case in the county was reported in 2017.

The City-County Health Department is not surprised by the case. There were also cases recently reported in Barron, St. Croix and La Crosse Counties.​..
