Re: Wild birds or intensive farming to blame for Bird Flu ?
If the chicken industry was to blame for the spread of bird flu, then how do you explain past flu pandemics? I'm sorry, this looks like an effort to shift the blame for the H5N1 virus from Mother Nature to chicken ranchers. It simply doesn't fit. Pandemics happen. And, we already know that all strains of the flu reside in ducks, they are the reservoir, not commercial chickens. And while some of the spread has been done by illegal smuggling of birds, and moving of manure from one country to another, it isn't the primary mode of distribution. Historical precedents of past pandemics are ample evidence that massive chicken ranching is not primarily to blame. Someone is distorting the facts because of their love of wild birds and their dislike of commercial chicken houses. While their love of wild birds is laudable, their refusal to face facts is not.
