RACINE — Wisconsin hasn'’t had a diagnosed case of avian influenza for more than two weeks, and State Veterinarian Paul McGraw hopes it stays that way.

(National Guard) members were tremendous at setting up their team — they brought in their own equipment for cleaning and disinfecting the trucks and we didn’'t hear any complaints,” McGraw said.
“When the USDA came in they said, ‘*Wow, we haven’t seen C and D (cleaning and disinfection) done like that anywhere else.’ ”

DATCP Secretary Ben Brancel said an official from the
USDA’s incident management team helping with the cleanup effort told him that Wisconsin’s response effort was the best he had seen in all of his years of working on animal disease issues.
“He said generally when he gets to a state they have two crises, with one often being people pointing fingers at each other and asking who dropped the ball,” Brancel said. “He said when he got here, he didn’'t see any of that happening.

Brancel said he thought the gentleman was just being nice until he saw Gov. Scott Walker at an event, and the governor told him he was getting reports out of Washington that Wisconsin was running “the best program they’ve ever seen in an incident situation around animal health issues.”...
