Madison tells unvaccinated poll workers they can perform their duties if they provide negative COVID-19 test results

MADISON – Madison officials have backed off from requiring poll workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
City officials on Monday told potential poll workers who are not vaccinated that they can perform their duties if they provide negative test results within three days of an election. The measure is meant to accommodate those who need medical or religious accommodations, according to an email from the city.
The city sent the email a week after telling potential employees they must be vaccinated to work the polls. The policy infuriated Republicans, who said they saw it as an effort to keep members of their party from working the polls.
Paul Farrow, the chairman of the state Republican Party, last week accused the city of setting a policy that was "only meant to restrict the public from realizing fair and open elections."
On Tuesday, he said he was pleased to see the revised rules but questioned whether Madison could impose any COVID-19 policy at all on poll workers...
