Risk to the general public remains low

On June 30, 2022, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) identified the first confirmed case of orthopoxvirus, presumed to be monkeypox, in a resident of Dane County. The patient is currently isolating and the risk remains low for the general public. As of June 30, there have been 396 confirmed monkeypox and orthopoxvirus cases in the United States due to this outbreak. DHS, federal, state, and local partners are working closely together to investigate and monitor the current monkeypox outbreak...

DANE COUNTY, Wis. — The third case of monkeypox has been identified in Wisconsin, Public Health Madison & Dane County announced Wednesday.

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday confirmed it’s investigating the first potential case of monkeypox in the city of Appleton.

The DHS says a resident of the city is currently isolating while the Appleton Health Department and DHS identify people who might have had contact with that person.

“The good news is we’ve been through the wringer and we’re prepared,” Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson said.

Right now test results are still pending and are expected Thursday. We’re told the person who was tested shows symptoms consistent with monkeypox.

... This is at least the fifth monkeypox case in Wisconsin. Cases were also confirmed in Dane, Milwaukee and Langlade counties.

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – An Appleton Health Officer has confirmed to Local 5 News that there are now three confirmed cases of monkeypox in the City of Appleton.

Local 5 News spoke with Doctor Charles Sepers who confirmed the three cases. That brings the total in the state of Wisconsin to 9.

Sepers says he is not concerned about community transition and monkeypox is spread between intimate partners...

RACINE, Wis. — The City of Racine confirmed its first case of monkeypox, Health Officer Dottie-Kay Bowersox announced Monday.

Bowersox said the risk to the general public is low.

“We are taking monkeypox very seriously and the City of Racine Public Health Department is working proactively to protect the public and prevent further spread of the disease.” Bowersox said in a news release Monday. “Public health is well positioned to meet the evolving health needs of our community through disease investigation strategies.” ...
