Why would flu season start first in Canada? (New article says it did not start early.)

The first article says that flu in the US tends to move from the south to the north and so far the flu season seems mild and/or delayed. Yet the second article says there are quite a few cases in Montreal, CA, north of the US, (even if some of CA cases are being brought to the ER's without a genuine need to so in the opinion of the doctor quoted.)

Does anyone know if Canada usually shows a different flu pattern from the US and if so, have any idea why? The only two things I could think of would be different tourist patterns, and that Canada and the US used different flu vaccine technologies.

Looks like influenza was not early in Canada after all. The article in the above post does not actually mention that influenza was confirmed by testing.
