20 October 2023 / Emergency Situational Updates

Overview

This is the 29[SUP]th[/SUP] situation report for the multi-country outbreak of mpox, which provides details on the latest epidemiology, a special focus on mpox among children and adolescents, and an overview of mpox event-based surveillance (EBS) conducted by WHO since the start of the global outbreak to support the indicator-based surveillance (IBS).

From October 2023 the WHO mpox surveillance strategy has shifted from weekly to monthly, and the epidemiological update section of this situation report is therefore slightly different from previous versions. The shift in surveillance strategy might have introduced some surveillance bias, and results presented need to be interpreted with caution.
