This is bad messaging. How does the WHO expect anyone, anywhere, to take COVID-19 seriously?

Not only is no one wearing a mask but it looks like there was a meal indoors and then a group photo where everyone is close together.

Doesn't anyone at WHO read the studies on the effect of COVID-19 on the brain? Or they have had COVID a few times and this meeting format is the result?

Honestly.....

The haunting brain science of long Covid link

Sci Adv . SARS-CoV-2 infection and viral fusogens cause neuronal and glial fusion that compromises neuronal activity

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A . Brain imaging and neuropsychological assessment of individuals recovered from a mild to moderate SARS-CoV-2 infection

Am J Neurodegener Dis . Neurological manifestation in COVID-19 disease with neuroimaging studies

Clin Neurophysiol . Deficient GABABergic and glutamatergic excitability in the motor cortex of patients with long-COVID and cognitive impairment

Brain . Neurologic sequelae of COVID-19 are determined by immunologic imprinting from previous coronaviruses

and many more.... link

I know the governments need everyone back at work and school but the proper way to send the message is to show how it can be done with a few protections in place. Masks is one method. The other would be food served outdoors. And of course, no large group photo that forces people to bunch together.

So ironic that it was a conference on pandemic respiratory pathogens preparedness...you can't make this up.....

"A new era for respiratory pathogen pandemic preparedness" – WHO Sub-regional Workshop for the Western Balkans

14 – 16 June 2023

Istanbul, Türkiye Pandemics caused by respiratory pathogens are recurring events that pose a major global health threat due to their unpredictability and their potentially devastating impact on health, societies and economies. The COVID-19 pandemic calls for renewed emphasis on pandemic preparedness, building on the challenges faced and the lessons identified during the pandemic.

In April 2022, WHO issued a policy brief on pandemic preparedness planning for respiratory pathogens, encouraging all countries, territories and areas to review their response to COVID-19 and to update pandemic preparedness plans with a focus on multiple respiratory pathogens. The recently published “Preparedness and resilience for emerging threats module 1: planning for respiratory pathogen pandemics” provides further guidance in this area.

Most health systems have shifted from an acute pandemic response mode to longer-term management of COVID-19, alongside other respiratory pathogens, and have worked to identify strengths and gaps in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is considered timely to conduct a workshop for the western Balkans to collectively address the transition from lessons identified from the COVID-19 response to improved pandemic preparedness, including updated pandemic preparedness plans.

The objectives of the workshops are to:
  • provide an opportunity for representatives from the western Balkans and Republic of Moldova to share lessons identified from the COVID-19 pandemic and to discuss how these can be translated into improved pandemic preparedness;
  • explore how countries, territories and areas are approaching pandemic preparedness planning post-COVID-19 based on priorities identified from COVID-19 reviews;
  • introduce the WHO “Preparedness and resilience for emerging threats module 1: planning for respiratory pathogen pandemics” and related resources (e.g. checklist and exercise material);
  • support local public health authorities to outline key components of national or equivalent respiratory pandemic preparedness plans including timelines for plan development;
  • identify support required for pandemic preparedness plan development.
