West Jakarta sees drop in the number of dengue fever cases

Efforts to eradicate dengue fever (DBD) launched by West Jakarta Municipal Administration has started to show a favorable result; a significant decrease in the number of dengue fever cases in the municipality, thanks to the better awareness of public in carrying out the 30-minute mosquito eradication program on Fridays, as well as the intensive socialization run by the local government.
The local health agency reported that throughout this year, the number of DBD cases in West Jakarta was 3,373 with three fatalities, declining from the last year?s number of 4,491 cases with four fatalities. The details are Kebonjeruk (758 cases), Palmerah (540 cases), Kembangan (432 cases), Grogol Petamburan (428 cases), Cengkareng (373 cases, 2 fatalities), Tambora (350 cases. 1 fatality), Tamansari (313 cases) and Kalideres (179 cases). In addition, there was no urban village declared as a red zone of DBD during this year.
?Thanks God, the number of DBD cases in West Jakarta throughout this year is down, said Yenuarti Suaizi, Head of West Jakarta Sub Department for Health, Monday (12/21).
Despite the good result, Yenuarti said, the local government will continue the PSN program next year, considering the program is the most effective way to eradicate dengue fever. ?We will still implement the PSN program in 2010 to fight against the disease,? stated Yenuarti.
