got longer on Thursday with six babies dying within 24 hours in the hospital.

In the past few weeks, the hospital hit headlines for bizarre incidents of inhumanity - on one occasion hospital staff put amputated legs under the head of the patient, in another ant bites killed a newborn while last week, the hospital wrongly declared a foetus dead. - in the last few weeks.

It is learnt that at around 8am on Wednesday, Akash Saha (4) of South Dinajpur succumbed to his ailment. Within a few hours died 8-year-old Sabita Oraon of Kandaran. She was admitted on September 5 suffering from Meningo Encephalitis. Namita Mandal (8) of Kaliachak was also admitted with the same disease a day later. She, too, died on Wednesday afternoon.

At night on Wednesday, it was the turn of four-month-old Zishan Sk of Panchanandapur to meet the same fate. He was suffering from breathing problems. Next was Santi Kumari of Sahebgunj, who was admitted on Wednesday itself. On Thursday morning, the toll touched six with 10-year-old Nur Saheb of Sattari dying after suffering from diarrhea. His parents, Najmul Mia and Rani Biwi, alleged that when Nur was taken to hospital, there was neither nurse nor doctor to attend him. "His life could be saved if treated on time," they claimed.
