Weeks of rains leave 47 dead in Philippines
Saturday, January 15, 2011, 14:00 [IST] Manila, Jan 15 (AFP) More than two weeks of heavy rainshave left at least 47 people dead from flash floods andlandslides in the Philippines, the government said today.
Monsoon rains have battered parts of the country since December 29, with more thunderstorms still forecast for theseareas, the government weather station said.
The death toll from the rain has risen to 47 due to drownings or burial by landslides, while four more people remain missing, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction andManagement Council.

MANILA, The Philippines- The death toll from more than two weeks of heavy rains in the central and southern Philippines has risen to 51, disaster officials said on Sunday, as authorities stepped up their search for another 16 people missing at sea.
Agriculture and infrastructure damage now exceeds 1.6 billion pesos ($36 million) after floodwaters inundated rural communities in about a third of the country's 80 provinces, said Benito Ramos, head of the government's disaster agency.
A flash flood Monday night swept at least 100 houses in four villages of this town, killing three persons bringing to 56 the number of people killed following weeks of heavy rains and subsequent floodings in several provinces in central and southern Philippines.
