28/06/2007 -- 10:03 PM
Ha Noi (VNA) ? The World Bank (WB) has provided 500,000 USD in non-refundable aid for a recently concluded three-year project on the prevention of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and other new infectious diseases.

The project, which also received 20,000 USD from the Vietnamese Government, began in April 2004 and ended in June 2007.

It looked to raise public awareness of the disease through the broadcast of programmes on local radio and television stations, and the distribution of 1,000 VCDs to preventive health care services at the provincial and district levels.

Around 70,000 posters, 200,000 leaflets and 500,000 booklets were disseminated and hundreds of speaking events and broadcast programmes were held in order to raise community awareness.

In addition, more than 2,300 medical workers attended training courses on SARS prevention and provided 2,000 sets of protective clothing and 1,000 kg of decontaminant Cloramine B to medical wards.-Enditem
