Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 2, 2007 -- The 4th International Bird Flu Summit in Washington DC is scheduled for March 14 and 15, New-Fields officials confirm.

We need to be concerned about a possible global pandemic flu, and this summit is the best way to bring leaders together who can come up with the best strategies
Public health officials, scientists, policy makers, and business leaders from different countries will meet to address pandemic prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. About 40 bird flu experts are expected to speak.

The last three summits were received with great success and featured key talks from Dr. David Nabarro, UN System Senior Coordinator for Avian Influenza; Dr. Sardikin Giriputro, Deputy Head of Sulianto Saroso Hospital for Infectious Diseases; Koos Van der Velden, Chair of the European Influenza Surveillance Scheme; Dr. George Atkinson, Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State; and Dr. Wenqing Zhang, Project Leader with WHO's Global Influenza Program.

This 2-day event is open to all interested businesses and organizations from all countries. Those interested in making presentations related to the Bird Flu Summit should contact Monica Fernandez.

Here is a link to a few videos. Dr. Anna Thorsen is the second video.
Listen to what she has to say. This is very interesting. Too bad the sound quality is not so good. She seems to be talking about many cases of avian flu in people who survived with mild flu illness, if I am understanding her correctly. I have never heard this anywhere else.

Mar 08, 2007 News Release
Pandemic Influenza Program Associate Director will speak about the National Pandemic Influenza Countermeasure Programs at the 4th International Bird Flu Summit in Washington next week.

Dr. Robin Robinson, senior project officer of the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), underscores medical countermeasures in the face of a flu pandemic in his talk at the 4th International Bird Flu Summit in Washington, D.C., on March 14-15.

Robinson directs a team of scientists and analysts in implementing the medical countermeasure actions of the HHS Pandemic Implementation Plan, which include developing, acquiring and establishing stockpiles as well as expanding the production of pandemic flu vaccines, antiviral drugs and rapid diagnostics.

He will join over 100 health officials, policy makers, business leaders, and scientists who will discuss emergency preparedness -- a key factor in the global fight against bird flu.

The two-day conference will also cover other topics crucial in sustaining order and business continuity during a pandemic: bird flu detection schemes, risk communication, animal health and food safety, benefit-risk assessment, and treatment of acute H5N1 infections.
