Washington state's first case of P.1 coronavirus variant detected in King County

KING COUNTY, Wash. -- Washington state?s first case of the P.1 coronavirus variant ? that was first detected in Brazil - has now been discovered in King County, state health officials said Thursday.
The case was detected in a random COVID-19 test sample that originated in King County, according to Public Health - Seattle & King County. Researchers at UW Medicine Clinical Virology Lab made the discovery, a spokesperson for UW Medicine told KOMO News.
The discovery would make Washington the tenth state in the U.S. with at least 1 case of the P.1 variant. According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention's (CDC) website, 9 states had reported cases of the P.1 variant as of Tuesday.
