WINTHROP ? A pertussis outbreak at Methow Valley schools has the potential to spread to other districts after one of the students confirmed with the disease attended a basketball tournament with teams from across the state.

School officials say they haven?t been able to get a clear answer from health officials about whether a basketball player who was confirmed to have whooping cough on Jan. 3 would have been contagious when he attended the Brewster Christmas basketball tournament on Dec. 28 and 29. Some 17 schools attended that tournament...

OKANOGAN, Wash. (AP) - There's an outbreak of whooping cough among school-age children in the north Cascades town of Winthrop.

Okanogan County Community Health Director Lauri Jones says there have been 12 confirmed cases since December. None of the children are seriously ill...

SPOKANE, Wash - Two cases of whooping cough have been confirmed in Spokane, all in less than 24 hours. One case was confirmed at Rogers High School and the other at Garry Middle School. Last year, Washington state had the highest number of cases in six decades.

According to school leaders, there has been seven positive cases of pertussis in the Spokane Public Schools so far this year...

Whooping cough down statewide, up in Grant County

EPHRATA ? Six new cases of whooping cough in Grant County in the past 25 days have prompted health officials to urge people to get immunized.

There have been 12 cases of the illness in the county so far this year, said Theresa Adkinson, a Grant County Health District spokeswoman. Ages of those with the illness, also known as pertussis, range from 1 to 18. None have been hospitalized and there have been no deaths this year.

Through April 2012, there were three reported cases in Grant County.

Statewide, there are fewer cases this year than last, according to state Department of Health statistics. As of the latest reporting period, which ended April 27, there have been 248 cases of pertussis in the state. There were 1,579 cases in the same period for 2012...

Whooping cough cases climb

SOAP LAKE – So far this year, Grant County has the highest number of reported pertussis – or whooping cough – cases of any Washington county.

Grant County Public Health officer Alexander Brzezny recently told the Soap Lake City Council their city has the highest number of cases in the county.

As of Friday, June 14, the health district has reportedly counted 38 confirmed cases and seven as yet unconfirmed cases in the county, nearly half of which were reported in Soap Lake.

For the past three years, Grant County has seen about 50 to 60 cases a year, according to Brzezny...

Increase in whooping cough for the county

EPHRATA ? Health Officer Dr. Alexander Brzezny reported to the Grant County Board of Health in May that there was a significant increase in cases of Pertussis in Grant County over the previous month.

?To date, we have more cases than we had last year,? Brzezny said. ?We are currently working on seven cases.?

Cases were treated in Soap Lake, Mattawa, Moses Lake, and Ephrata...
