This was notifiable since absenteeism exceeded 10 percent for one day. No lab diagnostics are mentioned and possibly 2 separate constellations of symptoms may exist, or there could just be an impression of that at this point.

This is the only school in the district currently reporting this level of absenteeism. There is a higher than usual number of cases of whooping cough being reported in this county this season, though this school was one not reporting a spike in that disease.

Nearly 1 in 7 students out sick at Lake Stevens elementary school

LAKE STEVENS -- Nearly one out of every seven students from Sunnycrest Elementary School stayed home sick Monday.

A total of 96 students from the school of 687 students were absent, said Arlene Hulten, a Lake Stevens School District spokeswoman. Of those, 28 students reportedly had flu-like symptoms that included vomiting, 62 had cold symptoms and six were on vacation....
