NORTH KITSAP — Furloughs are coming to North Kitsap School District as classes start in remote mode.

Approximately 195 employees have or will receive notification from their supervisors, according to North Kitsap School District, which confirmed the furloughs late Friday.

Bus drivers, custodians, food service, secretaries and athletic staff are among those affected by the temporary layoffs...

It appears that the Orange County School Board (Florida) link gave contracts to some administrators for the 2020-2021 school year mandating that they only get paid for hours in which they are physically at the school and students are physically at the school. If the schools are closed these persons are not paid. It is essentially a built-in furlough clause.

It's a real no-win. I should have titled this "hundreds in one county"...then there's the rest of the state.
