WA: Huge tank still leaking natural gas at LNG facility blast site

Hundreds of people were evacuated within a 2-mile radius of the plant and taken across the Columbia River to Umatilla, Ore. Late Tuesday afternoon, authorities had lifted the evacuation orders.

The Benton County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday that the gas was blowing away with the wind. Access to the plant remains restricted as investigators look into what caused the blast....

Shrapnel from Monday?s explosion reportedly punctured one of the two on-site storage tanks containing super-cooled gas in liquid form. Gas is still leaking from the tank in small plumes as the puncture repeatedly freezes over then thaws, and reportedly nauseated emergency responders evacuating residents on Monday.
