The person who contracted the disease did not require hospitalization and is isolating at home, according to the Washington State Department of Health.

SEATTLE — The monkeypox virus continues to circulate in King County, the state’s most populous county, and is now likely spreading between residents, local health officials said.
No cases have been reported in Jefferson or Clallam counties, according to Dr. Allison Berry, health officer for the two counties, on Thursday.
“We are putting our educational materials to medical providers and the public on signs to look for and supporting testing, but we’ve not seen any cases here yet, thankfully,” Berry said.

First probable case of monkeypox found in Pierce County

The first probable case of monkeypox has been found in Pierce County, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department announced Saturday afternoon.
The infected person, a man in his 30s, tested positive for the Orthopoxvirus on Saturday, the TPCHD said. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will confirm the diagnosis.
The man was never hospitalized and is recovering at home, the TPCHD said.
“We are working with him and his healthcare providers to identify anyone who may have come into close contact with him while he was infectious,” the agency said in a statement. “He is isolating and does not pose a risk to others.”...

Monkeypox is a rare viral disease. It occurs in rodents and non-human primates in central and West Africa. Infection can spread from animals to humans and then from one person to another.
Monkeypox does not normally occur in animals in the United States, but rare cases have happened in animals imported from areas where the disease is more common. In the past, people in the United States who developed monkeypox had usually traveled internationally or were infected by animals imported to the U.S.

As of Monday, King County is reporting 48 cases, according to the Washington State Department of Health.
Only 16 cases were confirmed in King County this time last week.
Pierce and Snohomish County each have two confirmed cases.
In all, there have been 53 cases reported in Washington, with one person from out-of-state testing positive here...
