Measles outbreak at Disneyland spreads to Puget Sound

SEATTLE -- Health Department officials say a measles outbreak that appears to have started at Disneyland may have spread to the Puget Sound region.

The department announced Friday that a woman who got measles after visiting Disneyland last month traveled to Sea-Tac airport and visited several public areas in both King and Snohomish counties while she was contagious.

The woman, who is in her 20s and unimmunized, landed at Sea-Tac on December 29th and flew back to California on January 3rd. Health officials believe she was contagious during her entire stay in the region.

She was at the airport from 10:30 p.m. on the 29th until 2 a.m. on the 30th. Prior to her flight home on January 3rd, she was at the airport from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

While in the Seattle area, she went to Dick's Drive-In on Capitol Hill sometime between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. on December 30th. She also visited Anothony's Home Port in Edmonds on the evening of the 30th and the Swedish Edmonds emergency room on the afternoon of the 1st...The Health Department also confirmed a Grays Harbor teenager who visited Disneyland during the outbreak developed measles when she came home...

A second case of measles in Washington state has been linked to a Disneyland outbreak that has sickened at least 47 people in the U.S. and Mexico since mid-December.

(SEATTLE, WA.) -- The Seattle-King County Health Dept. says local public health officials have confirmed a measles infection in an adult international traveler who was in King County during the contagious period...

...Local locations of potential exposure to measles
Before receiving the measles diagnosis, the traveler was in the following public locations. Anyone who was at the following locations during the times listed was possibly exposed to measles:

January 25, 2015
8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Sheraton Hotel (common areas), 1400 6th Ave, Seattle
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. SeaTac Airport, Main Terminal and Concourse D

If you were at the following locations at the times listed above and are not immune to measles, the most likely time you would become sick is between February 1 and February 15.


Numbers and trends
This measles case is not linked to the large, ongoing national outbreak linked to an amusement park in California. Nationally, there have been over 100 cases of measles since the beginning of the year.

The statewide total to date in 2015 is three cases, including one case in King County. Since cases are recorded by residency, this new measles case is not counted toward county or state totals. There were 13 cases in King County in 2014, and four in 2013, with no cases in 2012 or 2011...

Health officials say active measles case in Port Angeles

(Port Angeles) -- Clallam County Health officials say tests performed yesterday at the Washington State Public Health Lab confirmed the diagnosis of an active case of measles in Port Angeles.

The infected is a middle aged male and is being cared for at Olympic Medical Center.

The source of the measles exposure is unknown at this time.

The Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services in partnership with Olympic Medical Center and the Washington State Department of Health is conducting an initial investigation of this measles outbreak to determine who may have been exposed to the infection...

Third Measles Case in Clallam County

Port Angeles - The number for confirmed measles cases in Clallam County rose to three, after state officials completed their tests to identify any other people who may have the virus.

Late Wednesday the State of Washington Public Health laboratory confirmed that one of samples tested from Clallam County this week was positive for measles. The third case is a 43 year old male who had contact with the first reported case...

Peninsula Daily News Tests results awaited on possible fifth Clallam County measles case





PORT ANGELES ? Clallam County public health officials are awaiting test results on a possible fifth case of measles in the county this year.

Samples were sent to the state Public Health Laboratory in Seattle on Wednesday, Iva Burks, director of the Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services, said in a news release Thursday.

Second confirmed case of measles in Spokane

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - Workers with the Regional Health District confirmed Wednesday there has been a second adult diagnosed with measles in Spokane.

Unlike the first case, which came as a total shock, health district employee Kim Papich said they always knew a second case would happen.
