Health Department alerts school district of illness outbreak
Health officials report more than 30 cases of Hand-Foot-and-Mouth disease

BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va.

With guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state, the Berkeley County Health Department will start taking swab samples from students in the area after an outbreak of the Hand-Foot-and-Mouth disease.

"All together we have had seven schools. Three are not active right now, so four active schools," said Timi Adediran, epidemiologist for the Berkeley County Health Department.

Since September, more than 30 students in Berkeley County have contracted the Hand-Foot-and-Mouth disease, and, on Monday, the county school and health officials alerted all parents in the district.
