Virulent Equine Rhinopneumonia Virus outbreak in the Netherlands
march 2, 2012
On februari 22 the first cases of Equine Rhinopneumonia were confirmed in a horse stable in the Netherlands. Three horses were put to death, because of this illness.
Now the virus seems to spread. At the moment the situation is confusing. All horsebreeders and owners keep their fingers crossed.
National horse associations today advised horseowners not to transport their horses. All horseshows are cancelled nationwide.
Equine Rhinopneumonia can cause abortion and stilbirths. Several strains could be circulating, including a virulent one which can cause influenza- like and/or neurological illnesses (paralysis).
