Spike in viral meningitis cases in Alberta

A spike in the number of viral meningitis cases has prompted an advisory from Alberta Health Services.
Edmontonians are warned to watch for symptoms of the contagious disease, with thousands of youngsters heading back to the classroom in two weeks.
More than 90 Albertans have tested positive for the virus since April and more than half those cases are people from the Edmonton area.
Dr. Gerry Predy, the senior medical officer of health for AHS, says it's important people don't panic but that residents need to know how to take appropriate precautions.
"I just emphasize that most people who get this virus don't get meningitis, they just get milder symptoms - what people would call a summer cold," Predy explained...
