Risk of virus strains dangerous turn

On 9-12, Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology Central announced to implement the project "Research rates antibodies circulating influenza A/H5N1 virus in humans. Scientists of the Institute in cooperation with American scientists will conduct research in Hanoi (Hanoi-area), the Thua Thien-Hue and An Giang. The project has 1.6 million funding, the Medical Research Fund International (USA) support, is expected to research on 12,000 people from ages 7 up. This is a large-scale research in the world the time the current in this area, especially the project identified the influenza A/H5N1 infection in the community but no disease expression, to learn more about Source.

By PGS-TS Nguyen Tran Hien, mortality due to influenza A/H5N1 infection in Vietnam ranked second in the world. With the emergence of pandemic influenza A/H1N1, the risk of virus transformed into new pathogenic virus strength (of influenza A/H5N1) and spread rapidly (of influenza A/H1N1) is very worrying.

HA NOI ? Viet Nam kicked off an avian influenza survey on 12,000 over seven-year-olds in Thua Thien Hue and Tien Giang provinces, and Ha Noi yesterday.
"Outbreaks of avian influenza have occurred in almost all provinces in Viet Nam, yet the frequency of human infection among exposed populations remains unknown," said the United States Ambassador to Viet Nam, Michael Michalak.
The 12-month survey falls under the framework of a project focused on "Population-based seroprevalence of human avian influenza infection" jointly funded by the US National Institute of Health, the Henry Jackson Foundation and the World Bank.
The US$1.76 million project aims to estimate the seroprevelence and risk factor in Viet Nam, build testing capacity in the health sector and establish a specimen bank at the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
Viet Nam ranks second in the world for the highest number of Avian Influenza infections and deaths among humans following Indonesia.
As of yesterday, 444 cases have been reported world-wide, including 262 fatalities in 15 countries. Five people have died from the H5N1 virus in Viet Nam so far this year. ? VNS

Risk associated H5N1 virus H1N1

TP - Kết quả giám sát dịch cho thấy, trong cùng một gia đình ở Điện Biên, ngoài trường hợp nhiễm cúm A/H5N1 đã tử vong, còn có em trai người bệnh này mắc cúm A/H1N1.

TP - surveillance results showed that in the same family in Dien Bien, cases of influenza A/H5N1 also died, also this brother of patients infected influenza A/H1N1.

In the same time, the test samples of poultry in the family, also positive for influenza A/H5N1.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Tran Hien - Director of Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology Surgeons concerns the combination of two types of H1N1 virus in humans with the H5N1 virus in poultry and in humans to new strains have spread cylinder speed fast as pathogenic H1N1 and H5N1 as strong.

Related to influenza A/H5N1, Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and Surgeons Foundation Henry Jackson Foundation (USA) just launch the project "Research rates antibodies circulating H5N1 virus in humans in Hanoi, Thua Thien -- Hue and Tien Giang, with funding made more than 1.6 million, during the period from now to May 9-2010.

This project aims to determine the rate of H5N1 virus infection in the serum of the community through the 12,000 blood samples, analyzing and making blood banks.

Đây là nghiên cứu về cúm A/H5N1 quy mô lớn nhất từ trước đến nay ở Việt Nam.

This is a study of influenza A/H5N1 biggest scale ever in Vietnam.

Yesterday, the World Health Organization (WHO) in Vietnam said, has received financing commitments for a total 180 million doses of vaccine.

17 countries in the Western Pacific region of WHO will be received vaccine from this funding commitment.

In particular, Vietnam will be granted 1.2 million doses of flu vaccine A/H1N1 ArepanrixTM meet demand for about 2% of the population in the country.

WHO vaccine scheduled transfer period from 9-12-2009 to February -2010.

WHO ArepanrixTM verification process based on standards and information about quality and safety of the vaccine is provided in the dossier.

Dr. Nguyen Huy Nga - Director of Department of Preventive Health and Environment (Ministry of Health), said about 800,000 pregnant women over four months in Vietnam will be among 1.2 million vaccine doses are supported .

This will be an important study on the attack rate for human H5N1 in a country where H5N1 is endemic in poultry populations. By my count, there have been at least 13 confirmed human H5N1 infections in <st1:city w:st="on">Hanoi</st1:city>, but only 1 from <st1:placename w:st="on">Tien</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">Giang</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Province</st1:placetype> and none from <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Thua</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">Thien</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">Hue</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Province</st1:placetype></st1:place>. Of course, there were more than 15 human H5N1 cases in the first half of 2005 in <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Viet Nam</st1:place></st1:country-region> whose province of origin was never reported by WHO.

Any resulting numbers form this study will need special consideration since they are restricting the testing to adults and children over 7 years old. Recent 2008/2009 data on human H5N1 infections in Egypt indicate the most of the confirmed H5N1 cases in that country were around 3 years old. Testing only adults and children older than 7 years in Viet Nam may provide biased results.

Opportunity to cope with pandemic influenza A/H5N1

The complexity of the epidemic influenza A/H5N1 is not just a matter of each individual country in which to become health threats worldwide. To get the best response when pandemic influenza A/H5N1 occurred, Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology Central with experts from the U.S. Institute of Health, Medical Research Fund International Henry Jackson, WB World Academy of Science and medicine, U.S. military deployment project "Research circulation rate of influenza A/H5N1 virus antibodies in the serum in Hanoi, Thua Thien Hue, Tien Giang. This is considered a good opportunity for Vietnam before the risk of outbreak of epidemics due to influenza A/H5N1 virus caused.

Risk of influenza A/H5N1 virus has transformed into a new flu vaccine

Prof. Trinh Quan Huan - Deputy Minister of Health said that the evolutions of avian and human flu increasingly widespread and sophisticated in the region and the world. He stressed: "There is no safety for the avian influenza. Each bird flu outbreak, cases per A/H5N1 influenza spread from birds to humans is a chance for influenza A/H5N1 virus strains turn, increases the risk of pandemic. "

Up to September 12, 2009, the World Health Organization recorded 444 cases of influenza A/H5N1, including 262 deaths in 15 countries. Particularly in Vietnam, in 2009, there were five cases and deaths. By Prof Nguyen Tran Hien, the complexity of the epidemic influenza A/H5N1 in that mix this with other types of flu. The results of epidemiological surveillance, testing in families of patients die closest (February 11/2009 at Dien Bien province) that influenza A/H5N1 virus in poultry and the family members of patients positive for influenza A/H1N1 patients mortality is also positive for influenza A/H5N1. In this context, experts epidemiology, infectious concerns the conversion of different types of influenza viruses are circulating as to appear a new influenza virus capable of spreading rapidly, and drug-resistant pathogenic higher. They also concern the conversion of influenza A/H5N1 virus in poultry to spread to humans more easily. Current National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology is the central control center with the infectious disease United States (CDC) study the relationship between influenza A/H5N1 and H1N1 viruses to deal with the risk of new influenza strains Two strains of this virus.

"Mu information" about the case of healthy people carry influenza A/H5N1 virus

By Prof Nguyen Tran Hien, Vietnam is the 2nd in the world for number of infected, death from influenza A/H5N1 but we still have many difficulties to control the epidemic, especially in the more dangerous the pandemic. Pathogen that is circulating quite common in poultry and aquatic birds, while the scale poultry small, empty drop still popular in our country. Translated influenza A/H5N1 outbreaks in poultry since 2003 until now spread to many cases but not in a study on the healing rate of the virus with no clinical symptoms, making the risk of spreading viruses in the community have not been detected. With breeding characteristics in rural areas is certainly not a small percentage of people living in the area exposed to H5N1 but healthy are not detected the disease. Mr. Show and share, quite a lot of cases not identified specific risk influenza A/H5N1 virus infection from poultry to people how.

Conducting research on large-scale influenza A/H5N1

The project "Research circulation rate of influenza A/H5N1 virus antibodies in the serum in Hanoi, Thua Thien Hue, Tien Giang" between the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology Center and several medical research agency of the United States and the World Bank for funding more than 1.6 million, made in the last 12 months are considered important measures to resolve difficulties in the work of disease control at present for Vietnam and globally.

Prof Nguyen Tran Hien said that the objectives of the project is to identify influenza A/H5N1 virus infection rate in the serum in 3 people in local communities above the inhibitor stop technique and neutral red links immunity. Subjects studied 12,000 people from 7 years of age. This is a large-scale research in the world today. Serum samples will be stored in the environment-800C, then put on the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology central testing and storage. The results obtained are reliable scientific evidence about the circulation of influenza virus strains, will help build policies and strategies for prevention of influenza appropriate and effective. Tracking the emergence of new strains of flu viruses will help create resources for the production of influenza vaccine annually. With 12,000 serum samples will become a bank the serum not only kept flu researchers but also many other pathologies.

Ms. Polly Sager - United States Institute of Health affirmed that the project objectives that will bring out the values important not only for prevention of influenza A/H5N1 in Vietnam but also international values. United States Institute of Health and experts microbiology, infectious of America will support the training and offer ideas needed, also will do all research scientists Vietnam undertook.
