On October 23, the Center for Disease Control of Binh Dinh province informed about a death case due to influenza A/H1pdm, complications of septic shock, and drug-induced Cushing's syndrome (an endocrine disease caused by dysfunction of the adrenal cortex, causing chronic uncontrolled increase in glucocorticoid hormones).
Previously, on October 12, patient TVT (born in 1973, Vinh Thanh town, Vinh Thanh district) started feeling sick; he went to Vinh Thanh District Medical Center on October 13 with an initial diagnosis of stomach ulcer, vestibular disorder, bronchitis. After that, the patient was transferred to a higher level with a diagnosis of pneumonia complicated by respiratory failure, pleural effusion, Cushing's syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux and was monitored for dengue fever.
On the morning of October 17, the patient was admitted to Binh Dinh Provincial General Hospital with a diagnosis of viral pneumonia. At noon of the same day, Mr. T. was very tired, so the doctors consulted and transferred him to the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department. At this time, the patient was conscious but tired, had many contractions in his breathing, spoke intermittently, had pale pink mucous membranes, chest pain when coughing, had a rapid heart rate, and had difficulty breathing. In the early afternoon, the patient was lethargic, had to be put on a ventilator, then fell into a coma, had to be put on a ventilator, had short seizures, was in a deep coma, had a slowing heart rate, and had unmeasurable blood pressure. By evening, the patient was diagnosed with bilateral diffuse pneumonia, septic shock, and drug-induced Cushing's syndrome, and his family asked to let him go home. On the evening of October 17, the patient died at home.
According to his family, when he got sick, Mr. T had a high fever, headache, body aches, coughed a lot, and wheezed. His family bought medicine for treatment (unknown type of medicine) but it did not help, so they took the patient to the hospital for treatment.
On October 17, the provincial Center for Disease Control took samples and sent them to the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang for testing. As a result, the patient tested positive for Influenza A/H1pdm, complications of septic shock, and drug-induced Cushing's syndrome. Immediately afterwards, the Provincial Center for Disease Control coordinated with the Vinh Thanh District Medical Center to investigate epidemiological factors related to the case, the community, and make a list of people in close contact with the patient to detect suspected cases early. The health sector treated the environment with 2% Chloramine B at the patient's home, where the patient came for examination, treatment, testing, and means of transport, and households around the patient's home. The health sector also monitored the situation of severe pneumonia cases suspected to be caused by viruses at medical facilities and the community...
