As the second largest exporter of rice in the world, in your opinion, what is the situation in Vietnam under the current world food crisis?
During the 1st quarter of 2008, we exported 930,000 tons of rice, representing a growth of 14% year on year, while Thailand has exported 3.26 million tonnes (+ 66%). According to estimates, between 2007 and 2017, Thai and Vietnamese exports are expected to account for half of world trade in this product.

Last weekend, there was a fever purchase of rice and an increase in the price of this commodity in the domestic market. In the Big C stores, has sold more rice than usual (2 to 5 tons / day). Big C maintains its prices and limit the quantity 15 kg per customer.

"Although rice exports this year should reach 3,5-4 million tons, supplying the domestic market will be guaranteed. This corresponds to the government guidelines," said a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Development Rural (MADR) at a press conference held Sunday in Hanoi. A bumper harvest (6.5 million tonnes) is expected in the northern provinces for the summer campaign-fall.
