Over 8,000 cases of dengue fever with four dead have been recorded in Vietnam so far this year, according to statistics of Vietnam's health ministry on Wednesday.

The infected cases of dengue fever in the first four months of 2014 went down 38 percent over the same period in 2013, said the ministry. Up to 41 out of 63 localities in the country have been detected with dengue fever.

(VOV) -Since January 2014, as many as 9,011 people have been infected by dengue fever in 42 provinces and cities across from the country, including five fatal cases, according to the Health Ministry.

The deadly victims were from HCM City and the southern provinces of Ca Mau, Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc. Most dengue patients were recorded in southern localities (83.8%) and the central region (12.9%).

Most of the cases occurred in the southern and central regions, which respectively accounted for 83.4 per cent and 13.2 per cent.

First dengue fever outbreak in Hanoi

A first dengue fever outbreak in Cau Giay District of Hanoi affected nine people, said Hoang Duc Hanh, deputy head of the city?s Department of Health on July 23.

The outbreak was first recorded in the city. Health authorities and the local government have worked together to curb the transmission. According to survey, Hanoi has had over 112 dengue fever patients since the beginning of the year...

Dengue fever on the rise in Vietnam

The number of people infected with dengue fever is on the rise in southern Vietnam.

Vietnamese capital Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City reported the most cases of dengue fever, Xinhua quoted the Saigon Times as saying Tuesday.

Specifically, in the first seven months of this year, over 9,400 cases of dengue fever were reported in 42 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.

In those cases, there were six deaths, with three in HCM City, one in southern Binh Duong and another in Binh Phuoc provinces.

According to health officials, the rate of dengue cases in HCM City increased by 30 percent compared to the same period last year, with nearly 4,500 in-patient cases in the first seven months of this year...

Dengue fever on upward trend

An outbreak of dengue fever has often peaked in the rainy season. Medical experts have fretted over the increasing number of infected patients in the city?s hospitals.

Children hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have lately seen a surge of dengue fever infected infants, for instance, the Children Hospital No.1 is overloaded with over 200 babies in a week.

Moreover, many of them are suffering severe dengue fever at third or fourth stages...

Dengue fever kills 15 nationwide
More than 14,000 cases of dengue fever have been recorded nationwide this year, including 15 fatalities, according to the Preventive Medicine Department. The infection rate among children under 15 years old accounted for 46 per cent. Deaths occurred in HCM City and Binh Phuoc, Ca Mau, Dong Nai and Phu Yen provinces.

Dengue, hand-foot-mouth reach peak in HCM City

An increased incidence of dengue and hand-foot-and-mouth disease was recorded across Ho Chi Minh City as they are at their peaks of the year, Nguyen Tri Dung, Director of the city?s Preventive Medicine Centre, said on November 5.

As many as 3,150 dengue cases were reported in the city in the first nine months 2014, including five deaths ? one case higher than a year earlier.

In October alone, there were 1,074 new suspect cases with no deaths, he noted, adding that the number of dengue patients rises during the rainy season which usually ends in late November.

Meanwhile, HCM City recorded 5,382 hand-foot-mouth cases with one death during the first nine months and 1,125 suspect cases in October, a year-on-year increase of 59 percent.

The incidence of this disease is currently 20 percent higher than that in the same period last year, Dung said...
