Hanoi records threefold increase in dengue fever compared to 2023
Hanoi has recorded 513 cases of dengue fever since the beginning of the year, triple compared to the same period last year.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) – Hanoi has recorded 513 cases of dengue fever since the beginning of the year, triple compared to the same period last year.

The Hanoi Centre for Disease Control (CDC) reported that in recent weeks, the city continues to witness cases of dengue fever, averaging between 17-24 cases per week.

Among the various districts and towns, places like Dong Da, Ha Dong, Hoang Mai, Hai Ba Trung, Bac Tu Liem, Chuong My and Thanh Xuan have emerged as hotspots with the highest number of patients.

Dengue fever is known to strike from August to November, with its peak typically occurring in October or November.​..

Vietnam records 30,000 dengue infections in six months

Vietnam detected as many as 30,265 dengue infections in the past six months of the year, including three fatalities, down more than 30% in infection numbers and six fatalities fewer than the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Health.

Despite a fall in infections, experts say dengue fever is no longer a cyclical disease, and instead there are a high number of cases every year due to climate change, the environment and population characteristics.

Recently, some localities logged an increase in the number of dengue infections partly due to decent rain, creating conditions for the production of larvae. In addition, people’s apathy and lack of self-discipline in dengue prevention and control are also to blame for disease outbreaks.

In Hanoi for instance 745 cases of dengue fever have been diagnosed in all districts and towns since the beginning of the year, more than double the figure recorded in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the Central Highland province of Lam Dong has documented approximately 2,200 cases, about 1,200 cases more than the same period last year. Notably, a patient died of the disease.​..

More dengue fever cases in HCM City reported over last two weeks
The number of dengue fever cases, including a rise in the number of serious cases, has continued to increase in recent weeks in HCM City.​

Having been treated at the Infectious Disease Department for six days, N.N.T, 13, from district 7, still had bruises on his two arms which showed a blood concentration level due to dengue 'shock'.

T’s mother told VietNamNet that one week ago, she received a call from the boy’s teacher who said T had a fever and was brought to a private hospital for examination, where the doctor prescribed drugs to treat sore throat.

However, the drugs could not help and the boy continued to have a high temperature and diarrhea. She brought him to a district hospital, where he received first aid and was forwarded to the Children’s Hospital No 2 in a state of dengue shock.

N.V, a 4-year-old girl, was brought to the Children’s Hospital No 2 on the fourth day of dengue infection. Prior to that, she took medicine prescribed by a doctor at a private hospital to treat pharyngitis, but her situation did not improve. As she felt serious fatigue and vomited, she needed emergency action.

When she arrived at the Children’s Hospital No 2, she was taken to the emergency department in a state of dengue shock, with polymembrane effusion, and respiratory failure. She needed CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure).

Tran Ngoc Luu, a specialist level-1 doctor, said the number of dengue patients has increased by 50 percent compared with two weeks ago, with 15-20 inpatients in his department.
