Experts warn outbreaks of dengue fever in Mekong delta
Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine in Mekong delta city of Can Tho Dr. Huynh Minh Truc yesterday said that there has been an increase in dengue fever cases.
Since the beginning of the year, Can Tho City has 361 cases of dengue fever, an increase of 80 percent compared to the same period last year. Not only Can Tho City but also 20 southern cities and provinces have seen a leap of 120 percent in dengue fever cases in the first five months...

Through the first four months of 2016, Vietnamese health officials have reported 25,441 cases of dengue including 10 deaths in approximately two-thirds of the provinces. This is an increase of 179 percent compared to the same period in 2015 (through May 10 last year, Vietnam saw 10,892 cases of dengue).
Health officials also note that compared to the median in 2010-2014 period, the cumulative number of cases increased by 124%...
One more dengue death reported in Highlands province
44 year old Y Trơi in a village of the highlands province of Kon Tum yesterday died of the dengue fever at the province?s General Hospital.
Doctors said that Y Troi had dengue fever for three days before he was taken to a district clinic. Due to his serous condition, he was transferred to the province's General Hospital but he died two days later.

Lam Dong Province reports first death from dengue
Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine in the Highlands province of Lam Dong Dr. Nguyen Huu Phuc yesterday confirmed the first death from dengue fever.

Dengue fever cases on the rise in HCM City
VietNamNet Bridge ? Abundant rainfall in HCM City has increased the mosquito population, resulting in a rising number of dengue cases beginning early this month, according to the city?s Preventive Medicine Centre.
Last week, there were a total of 536 hospitalised cases from dengue fever compared to 501 hospitalised cases in the first week of September.
More than 11,300 dengue cases in the city have been reported this year, an increase of 35 per cent compared to the same period last year.

While the dengue fever data coming out of Vietnam is months behind, we can see that dengue is up in the southeast Asian country year-to-date.
Through Aug 31, Vietnam reported 63,504 cases of dengue including 20 deaths, in 44 out of 63 provinces in the country. This is an increase of 16,500 cases in August alone.
The cumulative number of cases increased by 97% with a decrease of three deaths compared to the same period in 2015. Compared to the median in 2011-2015 period, the cumulative number of dengue cases has increased by 99.7%...

The number of dengue fever cases reported in Vietnam during the first eleven months of 2016, reveal a 38 percent increase in cases compared to the same period in 2015.
As of 30 November 2016, there were 110,854 cases of dengue including 42 deaths reported in Vietnam. 42 dengue-related fatalities have been reported.
Compared to the median for 2011-2015, the cumulative number of cases increased by 79.9 percent.
In neighboring Laos, there were 5617 cases of dengue with 10 deaths reported in Lao PDR in 2016. The number of cases is higher than in the two previous years...
